Attorney Sarah Owens Discusses Recent Changes in Immigration Detentions and Removal Priorities on WABE Radio

Attorney Sarah Owings of Antonini & Cohen Immigration Law Group was interviewed recently by WABE radio, NPR’s Atlanta station, on deportation and the immigration process.

There have been over 2,200 Central American minors coming to Georgia since last summer and over 30% have received a deportation order, with the national average being at 15% for deportation of these youths. The scheduling of cases within immigration court can be very tight in Atlanta, making asylum cases difficult to do. The schedule is oftentimes so tight that hearings can be within weeks of one another.

Attorney Sarah Owings on WABE Radio

Antonini & Cohen Immigration Law Group attorney Sarah Owings was recently interviewed by NPR’s Atlanta station WABE radio as part of a story about how the delay in implementing DAPA affected our client, Eligio Rodriguez- Hernandez. While President Barack Obama’s executive action on immigration was intended to protect millions of undocumented immigrants from being deported, that wasn’t the case for Mr. Rodriguez Hernandez, due to the temporary hold on the process until a court decides if the president has the authority necessary to enact the program.

H-4 Holders Can Apply for Work Permits Starting May 26

Beginning on May 26, 2015, new rule changes will allow many in H-4 visa status to file for a work permit. H-4 visa holders are the spouses and children of employees in the U.S. on an H-1B visa (a temporary visa for professional and high skilled workers).  H-4 status does not bestow work authorization, which has resulted in personal and economic hardship for many foreign nationals who are often as highly skilled and educated as their H-1B spouses.
