Nicole Weitnauer

Born in Georgia but raised in the Chicago suburbs, Nicole was first exposed to the US’ immigration laws while teaching English as a Second Language in college. She saw from her students the potentially devastating effects US immigration laws can have on families. When she shadowed an immigration attorney at Catholic Charities, she saw an opportunity to help others and fight for justice.

After completing her bachelor’s at UGA, Nicole enrolled at Georgia State University College of Law with the goal of becoming an immigration attorney. During law school, she interned at Atlanta’s Executive Office for Immigration Review, the Southern Poverty Law Center–Immigrant Justice Project, Catholic Charities–Atlanta, and the Latin American Association.

In 2012, Nicole was one of approximately 50 people across the country to be named as an Equal Justice Works Fellow. She completed her fellowship at Catholic Charities–Atlanta where she provided legal representation to immigrant victims of crime, trafficking, and domestic violence. As part of her fellowship, she provided training to local law enforcement officers on the U visa certification. She also spoke at the Georgia Bar about immigration relief available to victims.

Nicole joins us from Socheat Chea PC, where she handled removal and deportation defense cases, family-based petitions, and visa options for victims of crime and domestic violence.

Outside of her work, Nicole enjoys spending time with her kids, hiking, and backpacking. She and her husband hope to one day complete the Appalachian Trail.
