President Trump tweeted on April 20 that he plans to impose a temporary immigration ban due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

His tweet reads: “In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!”

At this point, we have received no other reliable information or formal pronouncement from the government. We expect this ban to be temporary, to not apply to farmworkers (given the recent action on those temporary visas), and to not impact healthcare workers due to the grave shortage of these employees.

While the President’s tweet specifically says it will impact “immigration into” the USA, we do not know at this point whether this means that there will be an impact to all or some who are entering, or to any who are already here. Antonini and Cohen are monitoring the potential executive order and related immigration developments closely and will update you via our website and Facebook page as the news develops. Stay tuned!
