Attorney Sarah Owings Discusses Recent Changes in Immigration Detentions and Removal Priorities on W

Attorney Sarah Owings on WABE Radio

Antonini & Cohen Immigration Law Group attorney Sarah Owings was recently interviewed by NPR’s Atlanta station WABE radio as part of a story about how the delay in implementing DAPA affected our client, Eligio Rodriguez- Hernandez. While President Barack Obama’s executive action on immigration was intended to protect millions of undocumented immigrants from being deported, that wasn’t the case for Mr. Rodriguez Hernandez, due to the temporary hold on the process until a court decides if the president has the authority necessary to enact the program.

Sarah discussed how a parent who may have qualified under DAPA, a deferred action program for parents of Americans, was deported after visiting the Atlanta immigration office.

“He’s not a threat to the immigration system. He’s not a threat to the general public,” Sarah. “His criminal history is basically limited to traffic tickets – that’s the only thing he wound up in removal proceedings… because of a driving without a license charge.”
