The Trump Immigration Orders So Far

President Trump signed two Executive Orders on immigration, which include:

  1. Building the physical border wall

  2. Increasing detention space

  3. Expanding who will be considered a priority for deportation

  4. Involving state and local law enforcement officers in immigration enforcement (and punishing localities that refuse to be involved)

  5. Increasing the number of Border Patrol and ICE officers.

What About DACA?

The White House Press Secretary said that Trump has not yet decided what to do for DACA cases (also known as Dreamers). Members of Congress, including some Republicans, have said they try to protect the Dreamers. This was in response to Trump’s remarks about cancelling the DACA Executive order during his campaign. Trump has recently softened his tone on the Dreamers, however, telling Time Magazine, “We’re going to work something out that’s going to make people happy and proud…They got brought here at a very young age, they’ve worked here, they’ve gone to school here. Some were good students. Some have wonderful jobs. And they’re in never-never land because they don’t know what’s going to happen.”
