As of September 10th, 2024, USCIS has increased the automatic extension of Green Cards from 24 to 36 months for lawful permanent residents who have properly filed Form I-90 to renew their expiring or expired cards. This change provides applicants with a longer period of valid documentation while waiting for their new Green Card.
USCIS has also started issuing updated receipt notices to individuals with pending I-90 applications. These notices and the expired Green Card serve as proof of lawful permanent resident status until the new card is received.
Important Reminder
Your Green Card is simply physical evidence of your lawful permanent resident status. Don't let an expired card create unnecessary stress!
